As a young child, I was hours away from a permanent limp, yet I overcame multiple obstacles throughout my life to live my dream. During my pro racing career, I was mostly on my own, no coach to guide and motivate me through the maze of triathlon training and racing. Couch to Sprint Triathlon Training Plan for the Busy Person

Being the resident certified personal trainer in the office, I have been tasked with building a training plan for James that is realistic for his life and schedule. Once a week I will post about beginner questions for Triathlon. We will talk about gear, nutrition, transition, and any other topics that come up during James’ training. James will also be posting once a week to share about his training progress. We have included the simple plan that I have put together for James to use over the next 12 weeks. Too much, too soon will often suppress an athletes immune system, causing them to lose a week of training. We are starting off a bit on the easier side and just focusing on time rather than distance to ease in to the training. The plan is never more than 4 days a week, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a 5th workout day. The training times are short because sprint triathlons aren’t long. You need consistent training and some brick workouts in order to be successful.

Whether you’re married to a triathlete or are simply friends, chances are you’ve said something you shouldn’t have. Most triathletes discuss their experiences due to the boost in self-esteem and confidence these races provide. There comes a time when a triathlete comes across a know-it-all. The bulk of triathletes have dedicated countless hours to training knowledge and techniques. Such assumptions dilutes the blood, sweat and tears most triathletes put into their training. For many triathletes, there’s no end to their training or racing. Perhaps one of the most common questions asked of triathletes is how to lose weight. While triathletes are at the peak of their strength and endurance, they aren’t weight loss coaches. Next time you’re compelled to ask a triathlete how to lose weight, instead, discuss their training routines. We’ve covered the basics of what not to say to a triathlete.

Triathlon Coaching

Included in fee for Silver & Gold level coaching clients. Coach Sally discusses the workout and demonstrates each exercise before we break up into different areas of the gym. If you are an On Pace Triathlon Training Club member, you can access the resort by showing your member ID card at the main entrance. Bring a swim buoy or borrow one from Sally or Jennifer. Beth Sanborn from Lifetime Fitness coordinates this group ride. Coach Sally leads us in drills and activation exercises before offering a workout idea. You can do what is in your Training Peaks or the suggested workout. Introduce yourself and feel free to ask questions and discuss your plans/goals for the ride. Weekend training plans are fluid as clients with similar training schedules will buddy up to complete their workouts. This may include open water swims, bike rides, brick workouts, and/or trail runs!
