British Triathlon

Earlier this year I joined Castle Triathlon Series and found a warm, welcoming and incredibly fun community within the triathlon world. After watching so many inspiring people take part in triathlons this summer I really wanted to take part in one myself! When choosing a triathlon to take part in for the first time I looked for a triathlon, which was welcoming to newcomers to triathlon. I’d been recommended the Brighton and Hove Triathlon by a few friends in the industry, and I checked out the really positive reviews from last year’s competitors on RaceCheck.com which convinced me that Brighton was the on. I wanted to compete in the Brighton and Hove Triathlon to raise money for Stonewall, the equality charity that promotes LGBT rights and acceptance without exception. My personal aim is to raise awareness of triathlon as a welcoming and diverse sport and help to raise funds to further promote LGBT acceptance in other sports and in society as a whole. I’ve found the triathlon community to be incredibly accepting of me as a gay person, through both working in the triathlon world and beginning to take part in triathlon myself. Overall, I have found that triathlon as a sport is inclusive of people of all ages and abilities, with a race distance for juniors to people tackling full-iron distances – everyone can give it a go. Seeing that Stonewall was a sponsor for Brighton and Hove Triathlon was a great way to see that Brighton’s triathlon was a proudly LGBT inclusive event, and this meant that it had to be location for my first triathlon race. I’ll look forward to racing again in Brighton and Hove Triathlon as well as Windsor Triathlon next year to hopefully raise more money for Stonewall!

Busy Busy Busy – erinengstrand

At the beginning of August, some teammates and I volunteered at a marathon held in Townsville. The man who can fix practically anything, chops down trees in his free time, and builds houses on the weekends RUNS away from even the tiny snakes of Wisconsin. Holding the python was not fun and I made the poor zookeeper stand right next to me the whole time, but I did it! The weekend of the 20th, Townsville held their annual triathlon. There’s even an Olympic Distance race recognized as a prerequisite for the Australian Olympic Team! On Friday night, I helped to serve at a dinner for the race’s sponsors. Last week the entire base did something called Secret Angels, which is basically Secret Santa, but for any time of the year. In order to raise money, Townsville holds a breakfast at the port of the MV YWAM PNG. Anyone from the community can book a table. The event has gotten quite big over the years, with news crews coming in, and guests such as the former Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, the Israeli Ambassador, the mayor of Townsville, and more. On Monday our first group of students comes onto our base for the Youth Adventures program! PLEASE be praying for my team and the impact we could have on the kids who come to learn and serve others at the same time. We’ll got on outreach with this group of students to Charter’s Towers, and be back in time to teach another group of students arriving on the 26th. I expect September to fly by even faster than August did! Thank you to everyone who has been praying and supporting me! Please feel free to send me a message, or encouraging word at any time! I’d LOVE to hear from you, and answer any questions on what I’ve been doing! Much love!
