Stronger, Faster, Longer

After my last post, I had my last week of class at GMU and my final exam for my last prerequisite for vet school, Public Speaking. The purpose of our last speech was to persuade our classmates to make a donation to a charity and then everyone voted on the best speech, and I WON! I am so honored that they chose me, although I felt a little bad since I’m a bit older than most of them with a little more life experience and speaking experience. We ate delicious food, drank very delicious wine and just generally had a fabulous time catching up. I flew back home on Friday the 27th just in time to leave again on the 28th to head to Kansas. I’ll be back in VA tomorrow by 9PM as long as my flight is on time. Right about the time I finish this stage, and begin the next one I’ll be going out of town again. This time to Mississippi for a wedding, then straight from there to the Outer Banks for a beach trip with Curtis’s family. I think my base will come back pretty quickly, but I’m not sure how much training time I’ll have once school starts and crunch time approaches. Because I really want to finish the NROLW through Stage 7 this time around and I don’t want to give it up in place of endurance training. I have the time for all of it, but we’ll have to see as the summer progresses.

Don’t let life happen, make it happen!

My adventures in triathlon, cycling, running, fitness, cooking, and meeting like-minded inspirational started while I sat as a couch potato after reconstructive knee surgery. I set a goal to finish my physical therapy and train for triathlons year round. For the past 3 years I have stayed committed to the sport of triathlon while maintaining a busy job as a travelling software consultant. Running, cycling, and swimming became a form of meditation for me. I decided to start this website while I was training to become an Ironman. During my journey, I learned that becoming an Ironman takes a lot of individual dedication, hard training, and lifestyle changes. I learned that all of my efforts would not have been possible without the support of my friends, family, community and all of the people in my personal, work, triathlon, running, cycling, and fitness circles. I realized that not only were all of these people helping me transform my life, but I have a platform to help transform others lives as well. I strive to learn from past events by remembering the life skills, coping mechanisms, and takeaways from school and work to improve my future. My passion for solving problems by using data analysis, creativity, and optimization is now being applied to all aspects of my life.

Wetsuit-Bike-Trainers

Here we are, almost mid August and no races done or planned for this month. Apart from training as usual which includes plenty of running and some Strength and Core workouts, some friends and I decided to make it interesting and do a 30 day challenge. The great thing about it is that six of us are doing it together, therefore there is great banter and amazing support between us, making sure we get it done daily, on top of our busy lives which already includes a lot of training. I believe to make things work you need to work hard but you also need to enjoy it and need to have fun! This is why I asked my friends to each take a picture of themselves while doing a Plank, a Sit up or a Squat. One person, which I won’t name and shame didn’t take a picture. So here we are, working hard but adding fun to our training. On the back of us six doing this challenge, I also got some work colleagues, including my two managers to get involved which is great! Running can become repetitive and to a certain extent, boring to some people. Don’t let it become that way and get involved with others, your mates, and like we are doing this month, add something to your running/training, add fun! Everyone should be enjoying it. Anyone wondering about the Racecheck visors, please check the site.
