Taoiseach Leo Varadkar Races Dublin City Triathlon

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was one of more than 1,100 people who participated in Dublin City Triathlon in the Phoenix Park this morning. Mr Varadkar took on the gruelling challenge of swimming 750m in the River Liffey, cycling 20km around the Phoenix Park and running 5km to the finish line where he was greeted by a large crowd of his fellow competitors. At the front of the field, the men’s race was won by Galway born Alastair Rogers who completed the course in 57mins and 27secs ahead of Richard Horton in 2nd and Rory Atkins in 3rd. Natasha Sinha won the women’s race ahead of Ailbhe Carroll who finished in 2nd place with Elizabeth Carr coming home in 3rd place. Mr Varadkar finished the race in a highly respectable time of 1hr 39mins and 36secs. I’m getting a bit better on the bike, the run was tough, I am not sure my fitness levels are what they should be but it was a great race, there were loads of people here and I’m really grateful to the organisers, the volunteers who make events like this happen and the Gardaí of course. This was Mr Varadkar’s fourth triathlon but his first as Taoiseach.

Triathlon Coaching Brisbane

Without the uniform, Suzanne plans and organises all events, training camps and beginner courses at Tri Nation Triathlon. This includes the first and last names of every squad member, sometimes also the next of kin and family dog. She is known as the camp mother due to the hours she spends in the kitchen baking, organising and cleaning. Though don’t expect to see her cleaning any other time but at camp! Suzanne loves welcoming new members to the group and when she is not busy coordinating our coaches or helping new members get started, you can find her coaching the odd triathlon session. Whilst not currently competing, Suzanne has a strong history in triathlons having completed six Ironman events including a PB of 10:10 and a half Ironman PB of 4:52. She has also competed for New Zealand twice at the Age Group World Champs in 2009 and 2012. She is expecting to make her comeback at Noosa Triathlon 2016. Otherwise: Suzanne loves walking her Labrador Kona and cuddling her cat Mac. She is a staunch Kiwi and refuses to bend to husband Mark’s pressure to become an Australian Citizen.

Food Diaries: How a Triathlete Couple Eats for a Day

It can be a challenge to juggle the various responsibilities of work and life while maintaining a focus on health, but Katie Tobin and fiancé Elliott Lane have it down to a science. The couple, who live in Southeast DC’s Hillcrest neighborhood, are both athletic coaches: Katie teaches swimming for the DC Triathlon Club; Elliott, a rowing coach for Walt Whitman High School and Thompson Boat Center, teaches in the early mornings, as well as in the afternoons and evenings. They’re also both triathletes, and document their experiences on their blog, 1 Bed, 1 Bath, 6 Bikes. To accommodate their very active lifestyle, Katie and Elliott are both out of bed before 5 o’clock most mornings. Katie, who holds a desk job in Fairfax County, frequently exercises in the area, but lacking walkable lunch options, habitually plans her meals, snacks, and workouts ahead of time. Click through the slideshow for a look at this couple’s typical daily meals and snacks-most of which they make at home-plus some time-saving tips for healthy eating on the go.

The Life and Times of the Busy Mom Triathlete

I’ve never been so quiet here but I just had to step back for a week or two to regroup and get caught up on things. After my business trip to Russia, I thought I’d get back on track with workouts and start rocking life again. It’s just been one thing after another, as just I tried to dig out from a crazy spring, my Ironman training ramped up. Now it’s back to work, life, kids, fitness again. So for a few weeks more, things are going to be a little off and on with my ability to relax and have downtime, as I ramp up to peak training weeks. I’m working with a sports nutritionist on Metabolic Efficiency Training. It’s a bit of a departure from my self-sufficient weight loss management, but I wanted some guidance as I get into peak Ironman training. Seriously, the week after the 70.3 I struggled. I’ll be attending a training camp in Lake Placid in a couple of weeks! We’ll get to swim, bike, and run the course along with great informational sessions. So there you have it – caught up on life and training over the past couple of weeks.
